With everything that has been going on football wise, other sports are going pretty unnoticed.
Now that the college football bowl schedule has come out, fans will start paying more attention to other sports.
For example, which NBA team is on the longest current winning streak? The correct answer is the Dallas Mavericks at 9 games. During that streak, they have beaten San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Utah all on the road.
This team is playing awesome, and barring any injury, it will continue.
I know, I know. This isn't the playoffs. The Mavs stink in the playoffs. So what makes this team different??
I am glad I asked.
This team has depth, and good depth.
JJ Barea, Jason Terry, Shawn Marion and Brenden Haywood could all be starting for other teams. And that goes also for Roddy B, who hasn't suited up for a single game yet.
The other thing this team does is play defense. DeShawn Stevenson and Tyson Chandler have made this a defensive team. It is amazing to think, but when this team needs a stop, it can now get it.
Do I think this team can win it all? Maybe. I am not sure yet.
They do seem to match up better against teams than they did in the past.
They can afford to have a starter who doesn't score, because the other 4 and most of the bench can. The roles on this team are clearly defined. And make no mistake, this is a team.
They bench guys cheer for the starters and the starters cheer for the bench. They truly like each other, which is a big deal for a long season.
I don't know how far this team can go, but with the additions they have made, I am interested again.
Once the playoffs start, we will see. This team has been great in the regular season, but until they preform in the playoffs, nobody cares.
As always, I would love to hear from you. Send it to john@bigbadsportsdaddy.com.
Peace, John Conner
